sven's day

Sven's birthday was over-shadowed a bit this year with my graduation, but it made for a really fun celebration weekend. On Sven's day, Sat, we walked around town and enjoyed the city and then met Anders and Jenny for fika, always nice. That night we decided to cook a fabulous meal for ourselves and stay home since we were out late the night before. On Sunday Sven's parents came down and we had a nice cake, walked around a museum and then went for a early dinner at a great seafood restaurant out near the old frosty water. We watched ice float by through the fog. It was very nice.

Graduation

Yep, I did it ... Graduated with my Masters of Science in International Business from The School of Business, Economics and Law at Göteborg University!! Yippie!

Graduation was at 11:00 on Friday, January 27th. I was among 150 graduates of the Graduate Business School and 30 other people in the Internationl Business program. Sven was there to witness the event.Unfortunatelyy my two closest friends from my program couldn't be there. Virginie was in Paris where she had recently started working, and my thesis partner Caroline, was in London for the weekend celebrating her grandmother's birthday. The ceremony was about an hour and half long. Pretty similar to a USceremonyy with a speaker, awards, and the diploma presentation.

Much to the amazement of both Caroline and I, we were awarded theprestigiouss Malmsten award for the best thesis of the year. So darn cool really. Since Caroline wasn't there I had the pleasure to get up in front of everyone and present our thesis and accept the award. It was actually pretty painless but would had been more fun with her. For the diploma presentation they called our names and we had to walk up on stage to get them, always a bit of a tedious process, but nice. Afterwards they had a campaign celebration for everyone, with lots of hugs and cheers.

That night there was a formal dinner for all the graduates and guests. It was held in a 100 year old building that has always been used for these types of gala events. It was as very beautiful building. I would guess there was probably 300 people there, students, friends, family, and professors. There was a welcome drink first and then we sat down to a wonderful 4 hour dinner. There was lots of singing and toats. The food was also very good, finishing off with an great ice cream cake. Afterwards there was plenty of dancing and more drinks. It was a wonderful way to finish off a great program with all the wonderful friends I have made from around the world.

Update - I've been lazy (or maybe just pre-occupied)

So many people have been mentioning my lack of blogging. I do apologize. I will over the next week do an update and then get back into the habit. Here's a quick update ...

I finished my thesis which was the big accomplishment over the last month. I think it turned out pretty good, but it'’s always hard to tell with your own work. Yesterday Caroline and I did our last official thing with an opposition that went well. Graduation is on Jan. 27th!! Wow that entire degree happened so darn fast.

My first Swedish Christmas was great!! It was fun with all the new traditions and very nice to spend time with sven’s family. After x-mas we went up to Norway and skied for a week and celebrated new years up there. A blast as always!!

As I said, more details to come ...
